FAQ

What does Mbps mean?

Megabits per second. It is how many millions of bits your connection moves each second. Higher is faster.

What is a good internet speed in the US?

For one or two people, 25 Mbps handles HD video and calls. Households with many devices or 4K streaming do better with 100 Mbps or more. The FCC's current broadband benchmark is 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload.

What if my speed is much lower than what I pay for?

Restart your modem and router, test again over an Ethernet cable, and note the results. If the speed stays low, contact your provider with those results. You can also file a complaint with the FCC Consumer Complaint Center.

Why is my result lower than my plan?

Wi-Fi distance, busy networks, old routers and other devices using the connection all lower the result. Test near the router, ideally over a cable.

What are ping and jitter?

Ping is how long a message takes to reach the server and return. Jitter is how much that time changes. Low numbers matter most for gaming and video calls.
